Teranetics Demos Second Generation Dual-Port 10GBase-T PHY

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Teranetics (News - Alert), a provider of 10GBASE-T physical layer solutions, has introduced the company's third generation of 10GBase-T PHYs: the 40nm TN80XX Family.

Apart from this announcement, Teranetics will showcase industry's densest 10GBase-T switch and the 48-port Arista 7100T at the ongoing Interop (News - Alert) 2010 in Las Vegas.

According to Teranetics, the company's dual-port 10GBase-T PHY, TN2022, powers 48-port Arista 7100T, the industry's densest 10GBASE-T switch. The company's third generation of 10GBase-T PHYs is part of full-featured, full portfolio of Physical Layer devices that includes the industry's smallest quad-port PHY devices.

Teranetics' TN2022 is a second generation 10GBASE-T PHY tailored for high density applications. This dual-port single-chip features full 802.3an standard compliance, in order to facilitate the use of powerful, new 10GBASE-T technology from the data center to the network's edge. The single-chip form factor enables easy design-in and maximum cost optimization. The built-in diagnostics facilitates data center operators to localize the cabling problems and to minimize the link downtime.

Apart from providing XFI interface for enhanced design flexibility, the Teranetics' TN2022 also provides support for full XAUI interface. The multi-rate support decouples simultaneous upgrade of both ends of a link, thereby offering flexibility in existing installations as well as accelerating the adoption of new equipment.

According to Arista, its 7100 Series is a family of high performance, low latency, layer 2/3/4, 1/10 Gigabit Ethernet data center switches. These switches support redundant, hot-swappable power and cooling in 1RU and offer front-to-rear airflow when mounted in either direction. In addition, these switches are positioned for data center server access and provide backwards compatibility with standard Gigabit Ethernet cabling and investment protection as customers migrate from Gigabit to 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

Company officials said in a press release that Teranetics will be hosting 10 Gigabit Ethernet reception and speaker panel at Interop. A panel of speakers within the 10 Gigabit market ranging from switches, NICs, cable vendors, and industry analysts such as Sanjay Katsuria of Teranetics; Jag Bolaria of the Linley Group; Rupesh Chakkin of Cisco, Dave Chalupsky of Intel, Valerie Maguire of Siemon (News - Alert), and John Monson of Mellanox, will be talking at the event.
