Silver Peak (News - Alert) Systems, a privately held company focused on improving backup, replication and recovery between data centers and which facilitates branch office server and storage centralization by improving application performance across the Wide Area Network, has announced that its NX series appliances and Global Management System (GMS) are now available through Hitachi (News - Alert) Data Systems.

With this, Silver Peak officials clarified that the company's entire NX series of appliances including NX-1000, NX-3000, NX-5000, NX-7000, and NX-9000 and Global Management System will now be available for ordering through Hitachi Data Systems (News - Alert) and its reseller partners.

Silver Peak believes that its solution complements Hitachi Data Systems' NAS and SAN replication products by increasing the amount of data that can be protected to offsite locations. In addition, the combined Silver Peak / Hitachi Data Systems solution are said to enable replication to take place over shared WAN infrastructures, minimizing ongoing disaster recovery expenditures.

This agreement is aimed at expanding Silver Peak's existing interoperability relationship with Hitachi Data Systems. Earlier in December 2009, the company had become a global ISV partner in the Hitachi Data Systems Technology Alliance Program. In addition, Silver Peak's NX appliances have been certified with a range of Hitachi Data Systems offerings, including Hitachi Universal Storage Platform V enterprise arrays, Hitachi Advanced Modular Storage, and Hitachi Data Systems SAN and NAS replication software.

Earlier in May Silver Peak announced that its NX Appliances have been distinguished by EMC (News - Alert) as the "Offering of the Year" in the Celerra category of the annual EMC Partner Solution Awards.
