Panduit's Global Presence Underscores UPI Vision

By Erin Harrison, Executive Editor, Strategic Initiatives

When it comes to embracing their global footprint and putting green solutions to the test, Panduit not only talks the talk, they walk the walk.

Designed to maximize sustainability, global collaboration and innovation, Panduit’s new world headquarters building will leverage state-of-the-art visibility and control into all critical building systems, integrated and aligned under a single, unified and “intelligent” infrastructure.

The Tinley Park, Ill.-based headquarters is designed to function as an active “green” proof of concept with smart data center technologies as well as the Panduit Connected Building Solution for mission-critical operations and next-generation building features, company officials explained in a recent interview with TMCnet. In fact, the new five-story 280,000-square-foot Panduit World Headquarters Building will achieve an annual estimated cost savings of up to $210,000.

Panduit’s UPI solutions leverage an integrated physical infrastructure as the foundation to enable convergence across communication, computing, control, power and security systems. These end-to-end solutions drive operational and financial advantages across the enterprise, allowing businesses to minimize risk, reduce costs, heighten agility and support sustainability initiatives.

So what, exactly, does Panduit mean by a “global footprint”?

“Global footprint is a term we are using to refer to both our operational sustainability initiatives as well as UPI-based solutions that help customer’s meet their sustainability goals,” said Anil Maheshwari, director of integrated marketing communications for Panduit. “Panduit has conducted numerous global road shows, seminars and webinars to explain to customers and partners the benefits of a UPI approach. We are enabling our partners through training to show how they can offer more value to the end customer and differentiation through UPI-based solution approach. The analyst community has also taken notice and we are working to deepen their understanding of the UPI vision.”

Panduit offers a true turnkey solution towards allowing for an efficient infrastructure within the data center environment. Maheshwari explains that Panduit takes a holistic approach toward data center design and efficiency by balancing a suitably designed cabling infrastructure with desired power and cooling thresholds that are reliable, interoperable and scalable.

Further, customer support “across the value chain” is critical for achieving a unified physical infrastructure, Panduit officials said.

“It is a journey to achieve a truly unified physical infrastructure and it cannot be provided exclusively by Panduit. A wide range of physical and logical devices are required to create a unified physical infrastructure, as well as the services required to design, deploy and operate. It is accomplished through an eco-system of partners – integration, design, deployment – and technology alliances.

According to Maheshwari, the company’s sustainability goals relative to its new headquarters include:

Panduit’s UPI-based Connected Building Solution to optimize energy use.

  • Fostering initiatives designed to optimize the enterprise infrastructure that are good both for the planet and for business.
  • Maintaining current compliance with applicable laws/regulations.
  • Reducing energy usage and operating costs across all facilities/locations.
  • Monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions at all U.S. manufacturing units.
Panduit continues to reduce its operational carbon footprint through sustainability initiatives such as conserving energy use and optimizing manufacturing processes through the company’s facilities; pursuing pollution prevention and developing energy efficient physical infrastructure solutions and product sets for customers as they strive to follow responsible environmental practices around the globe.

To help drive thought leadership promoting green awareness and strategies in the industry, Panduit is a member of the The Green Grid (News - Alert) and the U.S. Green Building Council.
