RTA enables video feedback through phone app [Gulf News (United Arab Emirates)]
(Gulf News (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Dubai: Dubai residents using public transport services will now be able to log their complaints or suggestions through the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) smartphone application ‘RTA Dubai'.
The application, available both for iPhones and android-based smartphones, has been upgraded and redesigned to add several new facilities for users.
Abdullah Al Bastaki, director of the Information Techonology Department at RTA's Corporate Technical Support Services, said: "Before the application only offered public transport information and mParking service, now we have added a lot to it."
One of the main features of the application is Madinati or My City which allows people to take pictures of anything they wish to bring to the RTA's notice with their mobile phones and upload it along with complaints or suggestions.
"It is a very handy facility. You can click pictures, for example, of any broken fence, a traffic light not working, locations where a pedestrian crossing is required etc, and send it to us with details of locations like GPS coordinates and street names," Al Bastaki said.
The app allows people to use maps to pinpoint locations, while a video can also be attached with a complaint or suggestion so that no detail is overlooked.
Apart from Madinati, another addition to the app is a facility to book taxis. The app also provides details of all of the RTA's service and customer care centres, complete with location maps.
The mParking service has also been upgraded with the app now cabable of registering more than one plate number at a time.
The app also has a fare calculator for public transport users and information about Metro services and buses across Dubai. It also offers information about the nearest tourist attractions, medical centres, shopping outlets, petrol stations, etc.
