Telecommunications – TELUS to Offer Unlocking Services for Postpaid Customers

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

TELUS (News - Alert) has announced that postpaid customers will soon be able to enjoy unlocking for most SIM-based devices. Starting on Feb. 15, the company makes unlocking the latest in a series of initiatives meant to enhance the customer experience.

TELUS is focusing on the customer’s Quality of Experience (QoE) by offering more flexibility and freedom in the way customers use their wireless devices.

"Wireless devices are far more sophisticated and powerful than they were even five years ago and our customers are asking us now to give them the freedom and flexibility to use these devices as they wish. We are listening and responding to their needs, through services like device unlocking," said David Fuller, chief marketing officer at TELUS, in a recent statement.

"It's all part of our commitment to continue to drive flexibility, simplicity and transparency within our offerings. Over the last few years, we've eliminated system access and carrier 911 fees, designed simpler family plans, created proactive alerts that notify customers going over their data allotments, and created options for our customers to upgrade to a new device faster. Helping our customers to unlock their device is just one more step in this overall service evolution," he said.

Postpaid customers, or those subscribing to a monthly plan, that also use an active and eligible SIM-based device for a minimum of 90 days will be eligible to receive unlocking services for a fee of $50.

TELUS has demonstrated that it is committed to offering the best overall customer experience in the industry for all of its subscribers. The company works closely with leading manufacturers to ensure all devices are built and tested for optimal performance on the company’s network.

During the testing process, TELUS locks all devices in order to maintain TELUS-specific configuration settings. This approach helps to ensure customers can get the best possible experience when they leverage applications and services on the TELUS network.

In other TELUS news, TMCnet recently reported that TELUS is going to integrate Sierra Wireless’ AirVantage Services Platform into its network operations in order to provide M2M customers with online access to a range of M2M service creation, delivery and management capabilities.

Last year, the company selected ATG (News - Alert) Commerce as the new platform. ATG a provider of cross channel commerce solutions with B2B-specific features in ATG Commerce include contract-based product catalogs, contract-based pricing, purchase lists, approvals workflow, order restrictions, requisitions and cost center-based shipping.
