Prolexic Forms Data Forensics and Analysis Group

By Rahul Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Prolexic Technologies, the global leader in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation services, will now provide detailed pre-and post-attack data to clients as a subscription service through a newly created data forensics and analysis group called  Prolexic Security Engineering and Response Team (PLXSERT).

Some select clients of Prolexic are already receiving data forensics from the group and the basis of its insight into global DDoS threats and activities. The group provides DDoS threat information in two forms. Through threat advisories handed over to clients, they can get an insight into some specific threats and can take actions to defend against them. Also, the group uses quarterly complied attack reports to provide insight into Prolexic’s mitigation activities for the most recent three-month period.

With PLXSERT service, the customers can get alert and prepared ahead of time before an attack begins. Also, deep post-attack analysis can provide best practices to help minimize the impact of future attacks.

“We are on the front lines counteracting more DDoS attacks daily than any other company and this provides a very rich data source to mine,” said Neal Quinn, vice president of Operations at Prolexic. “Our hope is that the data and insight PLXSERT is providing can help organizations make more informed decisions and be proactive in defending against DDoS attacks.”

“PLXSERT lays the foundation for a more intelligent approach to DDoS monitoring and more successful mitigation,” said Quinn. “What has helped us internally win against DDoS attackers is now being made available to our customers.”

Prolexic Technologies recently mitigated randomized combination Layer 4 and Layer 7 DDoS attacks against Spafinder.com, a global online resource for spa and wellness services and products.

Due to the attack, nearly 30,000 customers were not able to access Spafinder.com. Even the agents at the company’s 24/7 call center were unable to access the site to provide answers and assistance with customer inquiries.
