CSC Expands UC Portfolio, Launches Telepresence-as-a-Service Offering

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Technology solutions provider CSC (News - Alert) has announced a new telepresence-as-a-service (TaaS) offering that provides a fully managed video conferencing solution for businesses looking to have face-to-face meetings while saving time and money.

The new solution is based on the Cisco TelePresence product suite and is an end-to-end managed video conferencing solution available through one easy-to-use interface.

Executives are realizing more and more that successful communications can still occur without needing to travel to each meeting, and as a result are starting to look at video as part of their overall culture. High-definition video communications like telepresence offers life-like communications where users can discuss ideas and collaborate on projects even without being in the same physical location.

According to Nimesh Shah, vice president of Global Networks for CSC, the new telepresence-as-a-service offering is unique because of the company’s ability to “seamlessly integrate technologies like calendar functions, ERP and CRM software, and communications services that currently exist within the client’s enterprise.”

“Our broader collaboration portfolio, which also includes a UCaaS offering, makes it possible for us to simplify the entry point for clients into these service,” Shah told TMCnet in an interview.

“It doesn’t take a lot of capital to expand the collaborative environment for enterprises and with our hosted solutions; companies can start to exploit this.” “There is a real opportunity for businesses here,” Shah said.

The latest offering also includes what company officials say is a “powerful monitoring/management tool to assure that telepresence end points, network and infrastructure networks are always ready for high-definition video conferencing.”

“For managed services, Shah said, “we take on the oversight and in some cases the risk of those network services, so companies can focus on what they do best.”

“We offer them an area of expertise in the network and delivering services and are able to tailor those services to support their business without having to think about how to make sure the network is always working.”

And because the services are offered at a fixed monthly cost, “we are able to tell them how much it’s going to cost per month, per room, so businesses can plan their funding and budgeting,” Shah explained.

Another benefit of a hosted service is that software and hardware upgrade costs are eliminated; this can be key especially for those companies that are still growing.

In addition to this new release, CSC has also announced it achieved TelePresence Global Authorized Technology Provider (ATP) status from Cisco (News - Alert) in the United States, Europe and Australia.

This distinction, which was achieved in a record amount of time, recognizes that CSC has fulfilled all the training requirements and program prerequisites to sell, deploy and support Cisco TelePresence solutions.
