Live Telepresence Golf Clinics: Vu Sponsoring HP Byron Nelson Championship

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

This week’s HP Bryon Nelson Championship, happening in Irving, Texas, will offer more than the usual excitement around competing players, as video conferencing provider and sponsor Vu TelePresence will be on hand to show how their technologies are a beneficial lifestyle management tool.

The Vu TelePresence system can be can be used for conversations including up to 9 locations, is offered in a 720p and 1080p system, and can be purchased or leased based on need.

Officials with the Pittsburgh-based telepresence company said they decided to sponsor the event after successful golf clinics conducted at the Valero Open and Heritage Classic last month.

Devita Saraf (News - Alert), CEO of Vu TelePresence said, “Golf enthusiasts, many of whom are entrepreneurs or small business owners, are seeing first-hand the benefits video conferencing can provide in achieving a work/life balance. By using video conferencing, one can remain connected to their business, while spending time with family or relaxing on the golf course.”

With this latest event, Vu again partnered  with former PGA Tour player and golf instructor, Stan Utley, who will be delivering live golf clinics via video conferencing at Vu’ tents on the green.

The telepresence sessions will allow individuals to demonstrate their short game swing and get feedback and tips from Utley, who will be conferencing in from his Arizona home.

“Teaching the art of golf really requires face-to-face instruction, said Utley.  “With Vu TelePresence, I have been able to offer the same level of detailed and personalized instruction virtually.”

Vu released  the findings of their most recent research last week that found SMBs are not only optimistic about the economy, but are also investing in Next-Gen technologies as a result. Based on responses from businesses with 10 to 100 employees, researchers said over 55 percent of respondents made or plan on making technology investments in 2011.  In addition, over 96 percent feel next-gen technologies are essential to staying competitive.

“I have been consistently impressed with Vu’s sharp video quality, and I’m currently looking into how I can use Vu to expand my business reach and offering at a national level,” Utley said.
