TMCnet Telepresence Week in Review

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Welcome to the latest edition of TMCnet’s Telepresence (News - Alert) Week in Review where we highlight all the top headlines this week related to video communications technology.

Not only are rising gas prices putting a strain on weekend traveling this summer, but businesses are more than ever looking to telepresence technology to help cut costs associated with travel.

A recent FinChannel report highlighted in a TMCnet article by Susan Campbell looks at the ways telepresence  uses compression technology to offer higher quality video feeds during business conferencing – this makes the communications means more efficient and reliable for CFOs and the business format.

The article also notes that over half of chief financial officers across the United States reported turning to telecommuting and teleconferencing as a means of greener solutions, recent study uncovered.

In another report this week by TMC (News - Alert) contributor David Sims, a closer look at the top developments in the conferencing industry points to a number of new product offerings being introduced to meet the growing demand for video communications.

Also this week, Sprint (News - Alert) announced a partnership with Tata Communications (News - Alert) to offer Managed Telepresence Services to its enterprise customers.

To make this possible, the offering will combine the company’s Global MPLS network and expertise in converged solutions with Tata Communications’ leadership in global Managed Telepresence – and will allow employees, customers and suppliers to strengthen their collaboration capabilities.

Finally, Cisco (News - Alert) announced new product enhancements this week that company officials say will make better quality telepresence available for organizations.

New enhancements include “any-to-any” interoperability between Cisco TelePresence endpoints and any standards-based devices.

The company also introduced the “Telepresence Everywhere” concept through its Cisco TelePresence MX200 to its portfolio of telepresence products. This solution is targeted for team meetings and personal offices.

That’s all for this week. Be sure to check back with TMCnet throughout the week for all the latest Telepresence news as it happens. Until next week…
