Polycom (News
- Alert) recently received certification from the Defense Department for the UC Intelligent Core platform and HDX telepresence room systems.
The certification – known as “Unified Capabilities Approved Product List” (UC APL) – means that the products passed tests on security-based, information assurance and interoperability, the company said. The testing was done by the Joint Interoperability Test Command.
The products are now approved for deployment on Defense Department networks. UC APL certification is considered one of the most stringent security certifications for UC devices.
"The U.S. federal government has some of the most stringent interoperability and security requirements in the world, and Polycom is meeting those needs with the most advanced, high-definition, secure UC video solutions," Barry Morris, vice president of Polycom Federal, said in a company statement. "By leveraging the Polycom UC Intelligent Core platform for building a highly interoperable, flexible, and secure UC environment, coupled with our industry leading Worldwide Public Sector team, Polycom now addresses the full scope of opportunity across U.S. Department of Defense and civilian agencies."
Polycom got the UC APL certification for video end-point and infrastructure solutions. Polycom video solutions increase productivity. They also cut downtime, protect important UC services and decrease disruptions.
Polycom technology is used by government agencies for many applications, such as administration, training and public safety, the company said.
The Defense Department uses telepresence and video collaboration solutions for communication among planners, at headquarters and among war fighters. Polycom solutions are also used for distance learning, remote training, logistics, disaster preparedness, telemedicine, and remote workforces.
The solutions get praises from those in the military.
"We work closely with our colleagues across the Department of Defense and our contractors, and it's vital to have solutions that allow people to work more efficiently and productively in a secure environment," Tom Gavin, security and video operations manager, Kentucky National Guard, said in a statement. "Logistically, you can't always have people physically in the same room but Polycom solutions allow for real-time face-to-face collaboration with the confidence our communications are secure. These UC APL certifications guarantee the highest security available in collaborative solutions."
In related news, Polycom recently launched an online community called Fed UC , which provides insights, news, and best practices for government agencies about UC.
In other recent company news, TMCnet reported that Polycom is now offering more than five times the scalability of competing UC solutions with the UC Intelligent Core solution. It delivers scalability supporting up to 75,000 devices, TMCnet adds.
