Ikanos, ASSIA Simplify Commercial Deployment of Service Provider Networks

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Ikanos (News - Alert) Communications, a provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, announced the expansion of its partnership with ASSIA.

In a release, Kevin Fisher, vice president, advanced DSL technology, Ikanos, said, “Over time, the vast majority of VDSL networks will be vector enabled, and Ikanos’ NodeScale Vectoring is the critical component for enabling these large, high-speed networks. In addition, ASSIA provides the ideal management interface for those networks.”

“Service providers around the world are demanding the ability to quickly, easily, cost-effectively and broadly deploy breakthrough vectoring technology. The combination of Ikanos and ASSIA technologies makes that a reality,” Fisher added.

ASSIA provides high-performance Dynamic Spectrum (News - Alert) Management (DSM) software tools that are capable of simplifying commercial deployment of service provider networks by leveraging the latest ITU-T standard -- G.Vector.

Officials assured that the software tools provide highly reliable 100 megabit per second (Mbps) performance over traditional copper telephone lines. Ikanos and ASSIA have come together to create an ecosystem for service providers to enable new bandwidth-intensive services besides streamlining “time to revenue” on vectored networks.

Ikanos’ NodeScale Vectoring and ASSIA’s DSL Expresse A as a combination will be demonstrated at Broadband World Forum scheduled to be held from September 27 to 29, in Paris, France.

Ikanos NodeScale Vectoring technology eliminates the crosstalk on copper wire across an entire node -- up to 384 ports. NodeScale Vectoring which is G.Vector compliant, increases broadband throughput speeds up to 100 Mbps performance and beyond over existing copper networks. Using NodeScale Vectoring, service providers can ensure high-speed Internet access and services like multiple high-definition television streams, distance learning, video conferencing, telemedicine and so on. It also eliminates need for installing complete fiber-to-the-home networks.

John Cioffi, CEO and Chairman of the Board, ASSIA said, “Ikanos NodeScale Vectoring chip is a clear market leader that has earned broad service-provider acceptance for large-scale high DSL performance.”

ASSIA enables DSL service providers to optimize delivery of IPTV (News - Alert), via existing copper infrastructure. Its ASSIA DSL Expresse extends the rate and reach of DSL systems to offer affordable, high-speed broadband services.

ASSIA DSL Expresse DSL management platform featuring DSM (News - Alert) Level 2 technology for DSL network optimization pioneered by ASSIA, with DSM level 3 capabilities will be demonstrated as part of the joint Ikanos -- ASSIA demonstration at BBWF, added officials.
