According to the Bedford Report, during 2010, the Game Design Industry witnessed a strong uptrend that was attributed to a sudden surge in the sales of interactive games for various platforms.
While the smartphone explosion has triggered the surge in mobile gaming, there has been an equally strong movement on the casual gaming front. Combined, they presented a strong front for the Game Design Industry.
A survey conducted by the Information Solutions Group and released by PopCap (News - Alert) Game only serves to confirm this fact. Almost 34 percent of the respondents admitted to having played a game on their mobile phones in the last month.
Witnessing the tremendous increase in high functioning smartphones in the market, even IDC (News - Alert) predicts that the global mobile gaming market will reach $13B in revenues by 2014.
The research report on Glu Mobile, a global publisher of 3D social mobile games for smartphones and tablets, mentioned that the company saw 2.48 million downloads of free games with in-app purchases in March 2011. It also indicated that Glu Mobile had released its new “Big Time Gangsta” App for iPad, iPhone (News - Alert), and iPod touch. The app is available on the App store.
Mad Catz, the other company mentioned in the research report, was involved with the design, manufacture, marketing and distribution of accessories for videogame platforms and audio devices. In a private placement of its shares, Mad Catz revealed that it had secured $12.2 million. The net proceeds is expected to be used toward the acquisition of Saitek.
Officials of the Bedford report said that such regular market updates on the Game Design Industry positioned investors to make good investment decisions and maximize their returns.
