Datatrend's UCC Appliance Integrated with Glowpoint's Virtual Video Room

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

Datatrend Technologies’ new unified communications and collaboration (UCC) appliance will feature Glowpoint’s (News - Alert) Virtual Video Room, enabling users to access on-demand HD-quality video conferencing over their PCs through IBM Sametime.

According to Glowpoint, Virtual Video Room (VVR) is a fully cloud hosted service for on-demand, ad-hoc, high-definition videoconferencing and offers easy way for SMBs to adopt video and realize virtual collaboration using any SIP, H.323 or ISDN based video solution.

Datatrend chose the Lotusphere 2012 as its venue to launch the new UCC appliance that has features designed to bring down travel and operating expenses via telepresence and videoconferencing and at the same time eliminate the need for businesses to invest capital in physical infrastructure. The solution’s collaborative ability is made possible by IBM (News - Alert) Sametime with Sametime Unified Telephony (SUT) Lite installed on an IBM BladeCenter or IBM System x server precisely configured for the video and IBM Sametime interfaces.

IBM Sametime is a unified communications and collaboration platform enabled for real-time chats, telephony presence, and click-to-call and the IBM server platform is IBM technology in blade form factor, specifically and efficiently configured and workload optimized.

Glowpoint maintained that it is excited at the opportunity to partner with IBM and Datatrend to deliver a complete unified communications solution for business customers including on-demand high definition videoconferencing. Its Virtual Video Room offering delivered from its OpenVideo cloud will provide IBM Sametime customers with a consistent video experience wherever they are. More and more business customers are turning to cloud based videoconferencing offerings to be able to adopt new solutions without investing in on-premise infrastructure and support.

Officials with Datatrend remarked that organizations are increasingly requiring ad hoc video conferencing capabilities similar to reservation-less audio conferencing to improve collaboration and reduce travel expense. And they want this capability combined with other collaboration technologies such as instant messaging, online meetings, integrated presence and more.
