This past week, a number of industry conferences featured open standards-based unified communications provider Polycom (News
- Alert) Inc. showcased the benefits of using its secure HD video software, Polycom RealPresence.
Recommended for use in a number of industries — including healthcare, education, manufacturing and other industries like government, financial, retail and entertainment — RealPresence offers high-definition video conferencing designed for professional use.
"In every industry, video conferencing is increasingly recognized as a mission-critical business solution,” said Randel Maestre, VP of Worldwide Field and Industry Solutions for Polycom, commenting on RealPresence. “Today, it's not just about video conferences in office environments; it's about delivering the ability to meet face-to-face in any environment. This transformation is due in large part to the integration of video collaboration into day-to-day operations such as mobile inspection on the factory floor, crisis response centers in government or video-enabled kiosk banking.
Unlike commercial software like Skype (News
- Alert), Polycom RealPresence is meant to provide a high level of quality and performance, making it suitable for important tasks. For example, RealPresence is used in eight of the top 10 hospitals and all of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies in the world for face-to-face collaboration from and to almost anywhere in the world.
“Companies globally are now seeing the value of video collaboration beyond simple travel savings,” added Maestre. “Video collaboration is reducing time-to-market, increasing customer service, accelerating emergency responses in government, and streamlining decision making."
In the education sector, RealPresence is used to aid collaboration in distance learning around the world, including at the top five colleges and universities in the world. Similarly, the top five auto manufacturers and top three aerospace companies in the world use RealPresence for long-distance design collaboration and troubleshooting via Polycomm RealPresence Mobile on smartphones and tablets.
Polycom’s RealPresence Mobile was the recipient of the Bronze “Best New Product” award in the Media/Visual Communications category at the 2012 Edison Awards.
