Avnet Technology Solutions (News - Alert) has been known for its global presence with IT solutions. However, now they are announcing a new section within the company, Avnet Cloud Solutions. As you may guess from the title, this is a team dedicated towards cloud computing and providing solutions for partners such as managed service providers or software vendors. The new team will not be encompassing all cloud technology has to offer just yet. Instead, they will provide partners with offerings in workload categories, such as productivity and collaboration; backup and disaster recovery; test and development; security; application hosting and management; remote management and monitoring; and data center as a service.

Avnet partnered with Savvis as their cloud provider in order to ensure that their interests are protected, but also to make sure that Avnet customers are getting the best quality. “In alignment with this strategy, Avnet entered into a strategic agreement with Savvis, a global enterprise-class cloud and managed services provider. Savvis was selected based on meeting specific channel requirements and its reputation for best-in-class cloud and managed services capabilities,” said Tim FitzGerald, vice president of Avnet Cloud Solutions group, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas. 

Of course, cloud computing, like most technology, doesn’t tend to stay idle for very long. It is constantly growing and gaining new applications. Marco Mohajer, executive vice president at Technologent, and Avnet partner, believes that the Avnet Cloud Solutions strategy will keep up to speed with cloud computing growth. “Cloud computing continues to evolve at a rapid pace, and Avnet’s strategy is in lockstep and aligns well with high-growth market opportunities for partners. At Technologent, we recognize that to be successful long-term, we need to develop our off-premise cloud computing business. Since this is more services-focused and annuity-based than traditional solutions sales, Avnet Cloud Solutions’ approach will help us quickly pursue off-premise cloud computing opportunities with offerings that are specifically designed for the channel and match the needs of our customers.”

Avnet will have plenty of competition as other technology solution companies are also expanding to the cloud, so only time will tell if their team can hold its own.
