Technology company, Vordel (News - Alert) recently announced the launch of their newly developed API Server. This latestinnovation is the first of its kind, and will allow enterprises deliver their services through the cloud, mobile, and partner channels efficiently and securely.       

Application Programming Interfaces (API's) continue to become more and more prevalent. These specifications essentially allow software components the ability to communicate with one another, for example, Representational State Transfer, or REST, which is an architectural style for software consisting of servers and clients used most commonly on the World Wide Web. Another popular API is JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) which is a text based open standard designed for human readable data interchange. Derived from the JavaScript scripting language, this API is generally used to transmit data between a server and a Web application. Due to their rise in popularity, delivery of API’s is becoming more and more of an issue for businesses. In a survey by Vordel, it was found that 50 percent of organizations polled had used API's to integrate new business channels, and 25 percent had used them in relation to mobile applications.     

The new Vordel API Server is a unified platform encompassing a variety of services for managing, delivering, and securing API's. Many different API's are supported, including the above-mentioned REST for mobile and Web, SOAP for Service Oriented Architecture, and file based interfaces for B2B integration. The delivery of API's through the server is standardized for higher performance and better security, and the server is designed to integrate seamlessly with an enterprise's existing IT infrastructure, making deployment easy. It can be used in a traditional data center, or in public, private, and hybrid cloud environments. When API's are handling day to day business transactions, having a poorly managed infrastructure can be highly detrimental. The Vordel API Server ensures that things run smoothly, increasing operational efficiency.
