AT&T is a name that everyone knows. Polycom (News
- Alert) is a name the fewer people know. Polycom is a company that focuses on giving businesses the tools that they need in order to collaborate with their employees at multiple sites and from the road. The two companies are teaming up in order to enhance the business-to-business services of both of the organizations.
While the company has yet to outline the full extent of the deal, it looks like for the time being the two companies are going to be working on product compatibility. It looks like the majority of Polycom products will, in the future, be ready to work with the telepresence system that has been running on AT&T's (News
- Alert) network. There are also some rumors that the system will focus on the conferencing systems for small and medium sized businesses, which covers most companies that will not make the finical investment in this kind of technology for infrequent use, or who do not want to add infrastructure to their system.
In a recent release of the company's finical reports, the company has been showing some solid revenue, "Polycom, Inc. (Nasdaq: PLCM), the global leader in open standards-based unified communications (UC), today reported financial results for the second quarter ended June 30, 2012. Total combined revenue were $379 million, including revenues from the company’s Enterprise Wireless Solutions (EWS) business of $21 million. Polycom has announced plans to divest the EWS business in order to focus its product and technology portfolio on core unified communications and video collaboration solutions."
For the time being there has been no information, or educated guesses by analysts, how a move like this is likely to impact the fiscal situation of each, or either, of the companies in the third quarter of the fiscal year.
