Polycom (News - Alert) Inc., a global provider of open standards-based unified communications (UC) solutions for voice and video collaboration, announced the selection of its RealPresence video collaboration solutions by POSCO Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd.

POSCO’s vast business areas include steel plants, energy plants, chemical plants, water treatment and environmental plants, civil infrastructure and urban development and architecture.

The company has operations throughout Korea and branch offices across the four continents.

POSCO is currently pursuing a Video Conferencing Project to accelerate business operations and minimize travel through enhanced collaboration between the company's head office, local offices and constructions sites in and out of Korea, and globally, including operations in Brazil and Indonesia.

Polycom’s RealPresence video collaboration solutions will be leveraged by POSCO for this Video Conferencing Project.

Polycom's video solutions are powered by the Polycom RealPresence Platform – a comprehensive and interoperable UC software infrastructure for universal video collaboration.

According to Polycom, its video collaboration solution is capable of transforming islands of fragmented communications systems into a seamless culture of collaboration, with enterprise-grade video easily and securely accessible to all authorized personnel whether they're mobile, remote or onsite.

Coming with an easy-to-use interface, the solution allows for multi-lateral collaborations.

POSCO ICT, a specialist in IT and engineering, helped POSCO E&C to deploy Polycom RealPresence video solutions in six locations across Korea. The solutions included Polycom RealPresence Room systems.

The Polycom solution was implemented in executive conference rooms in its Songdo office building and conference rooms for employees in provincial areas.

The system was built in 13 locations in nine countries, including China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brazil, Australia, Chile, Peru and Israel,

POSCO E&C deployed early-stage video collaboration solutions almost 20 years ago. The latest investment in Polycom video collaboration solution, POSCO E&E will be able to reduce a number of unnecessary costs relating to meetings and reporting. At the same time, it will help improve the work efficiency and productivity of the employees, by connecting the staff deployed in remote construction sites across the globe.

The solution will also enable the employees to initiate instant collaboration between the Korean offices and sites abroad including in Brazil and Indonesia.

Polycom’s video solutions have already been used frequently across POSCO's offices including those in Seoul and Busan, and construction sites in many different parts of the world. Activities include business and executive meetings, design and process review and remote inspections, project team meetings with construction crew and remote site staff – all conducting as many as 15 video calls a day on average, across the company's global sites.

Polycom also recently announced that the Vaillant Group, a global supplier of heating, climate control and ventilation systems, has chosen to use Polycom RealPresence video solutions to enable 13,000 employees across 20 countries throughout Europe and Asia to connect and collaborate via HD video.
