eBuddy Intros XMS

By Michelle Amodio, TMCnet Contributor

Sometimes a simple text just won’t cut it for that certain something you want to say.

Instead of just plain ol’ text-and-send, eBuddy (News - Alert) has launched the latest in SMS technology. Rather, instead of SMS, eBuddy brings us XMS, or extended messaging service, which allows a user to send unlimited mobile messages via an Internet connection.

Using XMS, eBuddy allows users to include pictures, emoticons, colors and other rich features that go far beyond LOL and OMG.

Once a user downloads the free app for their respective device, (Android, iOS, BlackBerry), the app will cleverly be able to scan your contacts for instant use. Users can take advantage of the many features, including chat, invite system, contact blocking, text bubbles, video and picture sharing as well as adding over 100 emoticons to express how it is you’re really feeling.

eBuddy was originally created by Paulo Taylor after a bet in which he was challenged to make MSN messenger work on a mobile phone. After having uploaded it to a server and as user traffic spurred, Paulo decided to take the idea further. On September 9, 2003, Taylor together with two partners created EverywhereMSN.com. Microsoft (News - Alert) however claimed the domain name and on December 4, 2003 the domain was changed to e-messenger.net.

On May 1, 2004, e-Messenger became incorporated. On June 1, 2006, e-Messenger was renamed to eBuddy.

On May 14, 2009, eBuddy launched eBuddy for Android (News - Alert), featuring support for sounds, vibrations, and buzzers. The iOS version was launched in 2007.

eBuddy is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands, and has offices in London, UK and San Francisco, USA.
