TMCnet's Unified Messaging Week in Review

By Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Web Editor

A number of new solutions and features for the facilitation of mobile exchanges made headway into the unified messaging space this week.

Always a hot spot for new innovations, text messaging got a boost from eBuddy (News - Alert) with the launch of its latest SMS technology. Instead of the traditional text-and-send, eBuddy has introduced XMS, or extended messaging service, which enables a user to send unlimited mobile messages through an Internet connection.

Using XMS, eBuddy allows users to include pictures, emoticons, colors and other rich features that go far beyond LOL and OMG. Once a user downloads the free app for their respective device, (Android, iOS, BlackBerry), the app will cleverly be able to scan your contacts for instant use. Users can take advantage of the many features, including chat, invite system, contact blocking, text bubbles, video and picture sharing as well as adding over 100 emoticons to express how it is you’re really feeling.

In other texting news, cloud communications company Twilio (News - Alert) launched its Twilio Short Code SMS, which will allow software developers to build applications that send and receive text messages using dedicated 5- and 6-digit numbers. Even further, Twilio short codes will make the app send SMS at 30 messages per second. This high-throughput suits the needs of apps that send SMS messages to a large audience or with time sensitivity as in the case of coupons, alerts, political messages and so on, said officials.

In other unified messaging news, Silent Communication (News - Alert) opened up its visual voicemail mobile client to more than 250 different mobile device brands across the globe. These leading mobile network operators include Orange (News - Alert) and MetroPCS.

The Silent VVM is currently the only visual voicemail mobile client that can be deployed to any mobile device, any mobile operating system and any network server, according to company officials.

“The amazing market penetration that we’ve achieved with our Visual Voicemail client (Silent VVM) speaks to Silent Communication’s unique ability to counter mobile device and operating system proliferation with ‘any device, any OS’ deployment efficiency. No other visual voicemail provider offers this capability,” said Max Bluvband, Silent Communication CEO.
