Digium Switchvox UC Solution for SMBs Includes Support for Android Devices

Digium (News - Alert) Inc. announced that the value of its Switchvox Unified Communications (UC) solution for small to mid-sized businesses has been extended to include free support for Android devices.

In a release Tristan Barnum, Switchvox product line director for Digium said, “Digium is excited to extend Switchvox Mobile to our Android customers.”

“With the wide adoption of the Switchvox Mobile features, users have been asking for Android integration and we are pleased to be offering it now. Android support is free and available for download in the Android Market, providing yet another valuable benefit our customers have come to expect,” Barnum added.

It was revealed that the Switchvox Mobile application now integrates Digium’s Switchvox SMB communications solution with Android as well as iPhone and BlackBerry (News - Alert) devices.

By leveraging the Switchvox Mobile app, Switchvox SMB customers will be able to make, receive, transfer and record calls as if they were calling from the office extension; check their call history; view and change call rules, such as routing and forwarding; change their out-of-office greeting; access the company directory and return calls via email and use the Switchvox app from their Android-based tablet to perform tasks such as returning voice messages using email, said officials.

Switchvox’s mobility with fixed mobile convergence (FMC) capabilities help users to select up to five phones of any type, including smartphone, voice over IP (VoIP), digital, analog or soft phone, to converge with their Switchvox extension.

Also the converged phones can transfer a call to any phone or number over a Wi-Fi or cellular network. Customers will be able to integrate these converged phones with their interactive user interface, the Switchvox Switchboard.

Switchvox is based on Asterisk (News - Alert) an open source communications engine and as Asterisk is at its core, Switchvox can offer an optimum feature set cost effectively. Digium does not impose any licensing charges for advanced features for extending the power of the UC system to employees’ mobile devices through FMC support, emphasized company sources.

Panasonic recently announced the introduction of a new line of corded Session Initiation Protocol (News - Alert) or SIP telephones, adding to its current series of cordless SIP models in the US market. The UT Series phones are certified by BroadSoft on Broadworks and Digium’s Asterisk.
