RNC to Use thePlatform's Cloud-Based Video Publishing System for a New TV Portal

RCN (News - Alert) Telecom Services will be teaming up with TiVO and a white-label video publisher called thePlatform for its upcoming TV Everywhere portal. RCN will be using thePlatform's (News - Alert) mpx management system, which is a cloud-based video publishing system, and TiVo will be managing the front end part of the service.

The forthcoming TV Everywhere portal will allow users to be able to watch video over an online connection and will be integrated with RCN's linear and On Demand services. It will be accessible through TiVo's (News - Alert) user experience while mpx will collect, protect and publish online video content to the TV Everywhere portal.

IP-connected devices will have access to content from TV Everywhere. Features include universal search, browsing, recommendations, personalization and playback.

What will make this portal stand out from rival TV Everywhere options is that it will offer a unifying linear TV Everywhere content with operator VOD. It will also include a single on, embedded playback and integration with DVR features if users own a TiVO DVR.

RCN will initially be offering thousands of free on-demand titles. This includes a wide range of movies as well as many TV episodes. However, it will be rapidly scaling the number of titles and programs as the service gets mature.

The portal will be compatible with tablets, smartphones and standard HDTV sets.
