The recent explosion of live broadcasting seems to be taking a grip on many industries, and video game live streaming has not been left behind.
In the ongoing Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this week in Los Angeles, gamers were treated to yet another good piece of news, when Paradox Interactive, a major publisher of PC-based strategy games, announced it will start offering gamers live gameplay broadcasts directly from their PC to TwitchTV.
TwitchTV is regarded as the world’s largest and most coveted video game broadcasting networks in the industry, where gamers can watch and interact with other gamers around their favorite titles.
Paradox Interactive already has the video game title, The Showdown Effect, where players have a link from their game dashboard directly to the TwitchTV broadcasting platform. The multiplayer game, set in the 80s and 90s action movies age, allows players to use different kinds of weird, wild and odd weapons such as broomsticks, frying pans, light sabers and shotguns.
According to the CEO at Paradox, the game “really lends itself to a spectator driven medium like TwitchTV.”
Speaking at E3, Emmett Shear, CEO at TwitchTV, said the explosive growth of gaming and live broadcasting has produced an interactive phenomenon. “Enabling players to stream their games on TwitchTV with a quick click – such as what Paradox Interactive is doing with The ShowDown Effect – opens the door even wider to potential streamers in the gaming community.”
TwitchTV has been used by popular video game broadcasters to showcase gaming tournaments, leagues, pro players and developers, and is regarded as a revolution in gaming culture. Other video game publishers broadcasting live gaming – as well as new and upcoming content daily – include Ubisoft, SEGA, Electronic Arts, Activision (News - Alert), 2K Games and CAPCOM.
TwitchTV is also working with other large hardware and software publishers, and is expected to announce additional integration later this year.
