Discretix (News - Alert), an embedded security and content guard solutions provider, has made certain of the interoperability between its Discretix SecurePlayer and the Verimatrix (News - Alert) Video Content Authority System (VCAS).
Discretix’ partnership with the multiscreen digital TV service revenue specialist, Verimatrix, will enable Verimatrix customers to chip into the effort of offering PlayReady streaming capabilities to diverse platforms and devices like Android, Apple (News - Alert), PC and other devices that can support Microsoft SilverLight.
Discretix SecurePlayer will consequently allow customers to implement PlayReady either through Smooth Streaming or HTTP Live streaming protocols (HLS) which will improve Verimatrix’ current enhanced security HLs solutions.
The SecurePlayer is designed to offer a user-friendly API for application integration, a characteristic that will enable service providers to conveniently distribute mobile applications without breaching studio content protection. The software security approaches used in ensuring that such copyright integrity is maintained include obfuscation, variability, renewability, trip wires and personalization, all aimed at protecting content against hacking, hence piracy.
When asked to comment on the integration, the VP Business Development, Discretix, Amit Shofar said,” Verimatrix is the specialist content protection solution provider across all types of video delivery networks… Our partnership gives service providers more options allowing them to deliver content securely to a large variety of connected devices.”
“After pointing out that Verimatrix intends to “add Microsoft (News - Alert) PlayReady to our MultiRights solution to give our customers greater choices for their multi-screen deployments.” Petr Peterka, the CTO of Verimatrix, admitted that “Partnering with Discretix enables the VCAS platform to seamlessly extend PlayReady DRM support to all Android (News - Alert) and Apple devices, providing a MultiRights complement to our own ViewRight Web client technologies.”
The move is no doubt going to strengthen Discretix’ security solutions that are incorporated in many consumer electronic goods to activate services and applications while protecting them at the same. With a good number of solutions in its basket, Discretix has a respectable reputation in tightly integrating its solutions into the device in question, hence boosting on security without compromising usability in any way whatsoever.
