Enjoy Certified Digital Content While on the Go via Discretix's RealPlayer

Verimatrix (News - Alert), a specialist in ensuring that all digital content that is copyrighted and under the custody accrues all the possible revenue it can, recently partnered with Discretix (News - Alert), a move aimed at acquiring the services of Discretix RealPlayer, an innovation that makes the monitoring and distribution of digital entertainment content easier.

The adoption of the RealPlayer will allow Verimatrix customers to access protected streaming from a wide range of platforms including Android, Apple (News - Alert), PC and other Microsoft Silverlight compliant gadgets. PlayReady will allow for content access either through Smooth Streaming or HTTP Streaming (HLS) protocols which will improve on the existent Verimatrix enhanced security HLS solutions.

SecurePlayer is a downloadable application for content protection and allows Android and iOS operating tablets or smartphones that run Microsoft (News - Alert) PlayReady DRM to access VOD. It does so by availing a straight forward API for application integration giving service providers the option of deploying copyrighted content without the fear of copyright infringement.

The security of the content is ensured through repeated encryption attained by the use of software security innovations such as variability, obfuscation, renewability, trip wires and personalization, all aimed at giving potential hackers a real headache if not entirely keeping them off the content being transmitted.

He believes that the “partnership gives service providers more options allowing them to deliver content securely to a large variety of connected devices.”

Petr Peterka, CTO, Verimatrix, believes that RealPlayer is bound to increase the number of people accessing its content regardless of where they are, whether in the office on their PC or in the train on their Android (News - Alert) smartphone. He said that “partnering with Discretix enables the VCAS platform to seamlessly extend PlayReady DRM support to all Android and Apple devices, providing a MultiRights complement to our own ViewRight Web client technologies.”
