Absolute Post, a video post-production house, was in need of a new extender system. Its previous ones had a limited variety of services that its partners could access, and the engineering team had to spend hours moving and installing equipment at the client’s address.
To resolve that, it found the Avocent (News - Alert) HMX extender system, which has provided an increase in functionality and eliminated the need to constantly move equipment.
Absolute used to tie individual systems to specific rooms, which caused problems with scheduling conflicts, room size and so on.
That’s no longer an issue for them, now that the Avocent HMX extender system lets clients in any suite access any system. This provides them with better flexibility for accommodating client requests, as well as saving time and storage space by eliminating unnecessary data replication and time spent moving equipment.
With the Avocent HMX system, Absolute’s clients can access any computing resource from any room, improving the quality of service and business volume by responding to client requests. Operators just have to log in with Active Directory user credentials, and the resources are allocated to them instantly.
“Our production crew can get a call out of the blue from a client that wants to come in and work on a new project or adaptation,” says David Bees, CTO for Absolute Post. “The last thing we want to tell them is that they have to wait an hour because a particular room is unavailable. The Avocent solutions enable us to adapt and quickly shift things around to meet the clients’ needs so they don’t have to wait. The faster access to resources that the Avocent HMX system provides, and its ability to quickly accommodate our clients’ needs, keeps our clients from going to a competitor and enables us to serve more customers than before, which increases our business volume and profitability.”
Avocent has done a remarkable job at improving Absolute’s services. The HMX system has helped save several hours a day for Absolute and its customers, not to mention all the frustration that has been alleviated now that customers no longer wait for individual rooms, and employees no longer move equipment everywhere.
Absolute Post was in dire need for an upgrade, and they got just what they needed from Avocent.
