Envivio Powers First Google TV Service by LG U+ in Korea

Provider of live and on-demand multiscreen IP video processing and delivery solutions, Envivio (News - Alert), today made it known that LG U+, a South Korean telecommunications service provider and a subsidiary of LG Group, has deployed Envivio encoding solutions to power the new LG u+tv G multiscreen service. LG u+tv G is the first service in South Korea to support Google (News - Alert) TV, offering subscribers access to live channels and on-demand TV integrated with popular Google apps like Search, YouTube and Chrome — as well as access to the Google Play app store.

LG U+ already uses Envivio encoders to power its TV Everywhere service, bringing over 126 channels of video to TVs, PCs and mobile devices.

"LG U+ is an innovative operator, and the introduction of this new Google TV service takes their video service to the next level," said Julien Signes (News - Alert), Envivio's president and CEO. "At Envivio, we are committed to providing solutions that offer the flexibility and scalability our customers need, with the feature set to support traditional TV and advanced applications on any viewing device."

Envivio's Muse Live and On-Demand software encoders/transcoders boast a high degree of flexibility, offering high quality video in any format, to any device, over any network. Muse is also easy to upgrade with its converged architecture and feature-rich, software-based design and can run on Envivio 4Caster Intel (News - Alert)-based appliances or HP blade servers.

Hundreds of content and service providers around the world have selected Envivio to power their multiscreen services. For example, in October, the company was selected by Viaplay, a top online service for TV, film and sports in the Nordics, to enhance the provider's service. In this instance, Viaplay is using Envivio Muse Live software-based encoders on the 4Caster C4 Gen III platform, extending streaming of live channels to IP set-top boxes.
