TCL, China's top television manufacturer and the fourth-largest LCD TV producer worldwide, will embed a native app from Frequency for aggregating and streaming online video in all future TCL smart TV models.
The Frequency video aggregation service works by continuously finding, indexing and organizing millions of videos each day from thousands of unique online video sources to deliver a personalized viewing experience.
"Through our partnership with Frequency, we're delivering a new and better way for consumers to experience online video from our smart TVs," said Stan Hu, director of global business strategy and product planning for the LCD Business Unit of TCL Multimedia. "The tight integration of Frequency with our smart cloud TVs aligns with our strategy focusing on 'integration, innovation and internationalization,' and ultimately helps consumers get the most from the investment in TCL products."
The first Frequency app, for the Android (News - Alert) operating system, will ship immediately on the new TCL iCE SCREEN, a smart personal display, where it will be accessible from the device's home screen. It will start showing up in other TCL smart TV lineups in various countries worldwide beginning in the first quarter.
"The combination of TCL's innovative line of smart TVs with Frequency's personalized online video experience gives consumers more content choices and an integrated service offering that complements their existing programming options," said Blair Harrison, CEO and founder of Frequency.
"Similar to the way people browse TV channels and, increasingly, services like Hulu (News - Alert) and Netflix from their smart TVs, Frequency's app allows TCL iCE SCREEN viewers to easily launch our app and tune in to their favorite video content from anywhere on the Internet, from thousands of major media brands, Internet video services such as YouTube and Vimeo (News - Alert), and from their social networks like Twitter and Facebook."
