This week at CES (News - Alert) 2013, Sling Media revealed plans to introduce a new Slingbox platform developments design that will heighten TV viewing for its customers. The new devices, My Media and Slingbox Companion, will specifically enhance the viewing experience for customers who currently own the Slingbox 500 and Slingbox 350.
"These new features bring instant, additional value to Slingbox 500 and Slingbox 350 customers at no extra cost and position Slingbox firmly as a device of choice in the living room," said Sling Media's (News - Alert) SVP and GM Raghu Tarra.
The My Media device, using SlingSync, will allow users to easily sync photos and videos to their Slingbox 500 device. Users will be able to connect a USB drive into the device and view their videos and photos on their TV’s. With the Slingplayer app installed on a smartphone, photos and videos will automatically be uploaded to the USB drive if both are connected to the same local network. Initially, My Media will only be exclusive to Slingbox 500 customers.
Just like My Media, Slingbox Companion will initially be available for Slingbox 500 customers, but will eventually be made available for Slingbox 350 users sometime later in 2013. Slingbox Companion will have many features that will truly enhance the viewing experience.
Sports enthusiasts will be happy to know that the Slingbox Companion will feature a program containing live stats during sporting events, drawing viewers in. Like many programs, it will also contain a feature telling customers what is currently trending on TV, also giving users the ability to share what they are viewing with Facebook (News - Alert) and Twitter friends.
"The My Media feature delivers on the platform promise of the Slingbox 500. Slingbox Companion further leverages the Slingbox to deliver a powerful 2nd screen application for the iPad that combines content discovery and navigation with rich media and social media features,” Tarra added.
