Humax Co. Ltd has unveiled its approval for the production of its next generation DIRECTV solution, the HR44-500 “Genie” server. The server will be combined with Humax’s own C41-500 “mini Genie,” which is now in the process of getting its final certification.
The set-top box manufacturer developed its solution according to the DIRECTV Common Driver Interface (CDI) standard, which has reduced the overall development time of the HR44-500 and C41-500 platforms to under one year.
“The introduction of the HR44-500 and C41-500 second generation home media server solution showcases our leadership position and development expertise in the home gateway server market,” said Humax’s Americas President Albert Son, in a statement.
Both the HR44-500 and the C41-500 were developed in compliance with the RVU protocol, and are second generation RVU server client solutions.
“The sophisticated capabilities of ‘Genie’ coupled with the RVU protocol’s ease of use makes this the most advanced and intuitive media server platform to date,” added Son.
Those at DIRECTV are pleased to be selected by Humax. Romulo Pontual (News - Alert), executive vice president and CTO of DIRECTV said as much--“We look forward to the launch of the Humax HR44-500 RVU server and its partner the C41-500 mini Genie device as we expand our next generation Genie solution.”
Pontual added that “Basing the Genie system on the proven CDI standard and RVU protocol has enabled Humax to develop this solution quickly and easily. Our customers love that they can get all content in all rooms with such an easy to use system with a consistent, powerful User Interface.”
The Genie solution is based on Digital Living Network Alliance and its guidelines for premium video, so the abilities of Genie and mini Genie include compatibility with other CE devices, as well as a consistent Remote User Interface, and connections across most platforms.
As Son described it, the coupling of Humax with Genie is “a literal dream come true for DIRECTV subscribers everywhere.”
