Paltalk, the premier provider of software and technology for real-time, rich media, interactive social networking powers a large collection of video-based communities. Following a period of aggressive growth, during which it issued two new patents and expanded into mobile VoIP, it announced the acquisition of Camfrog, one of Download.com's top 10 most popular downloads for the past five years, with over 60 million downloads.

While the acquisition takes place immediately, Camfrog will continue to operate as a standalone service from Paltalk (News - Alert).

Since its launch in 1998, Paltalk has continued to grow and now boasts millions of active members simultaneously chatting in rooms. It plans to acquire videoconference.com, which provides flash-based videoconferencing technology.

Camfrog, which has localized software in different languages is a top 500 site in terms of traffic in parts of Asia and emerging markets. Paltalk's acquisition of Camfrog has enhanced its global presence, and combined with Paltalk's reach in the United States, Western Europe and the Middle East, the Paltalk - Camfrog combine is officially recognized as the largest company competing globally in the video conferencing space with over 12 million active users.

"During our time in this space, we've looked at Paltalk as a proven technology leader with a profitable platform and an ability to continually innovate and deliver new video chat offerings to its user base," Jon Hundley, co-founder of Camfrog, said, and added that the acquisition was an opportunity for Camfrog to enhance services to its existing customers, while opening up new ones for new users.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jason Katz, CEO of Paltalk said that Camfrog's commitment to utility, visibility and accessibility made it the most popular downloads on the Internet and the takeover was an opportunity for both companies to expose their services to an ever expanding user base that wants to make video chat and mobile VoIP a part of their online experience.

Paltalk is the only video chat technology with the ability to scale to any size chat room and has been downloaded more than 70 million times to date, and it allows users to connect with friends or with people they do not know on a variety of platforms.

Camfrog was founded by Jon Hundley and Anton Bondar in 2003 to create a video chat service that allows users to easily find new video chat partners and provide a network of real video chat rooms where users can see, hear, and chat with several people at a time.

In a related news release, Paltalk, announced they have won an award for overall quality in the Webcam chat industry. TopTenREVIEWS.com has recognized Paltalk for superior ease of use and   high-quality features that make the service one of the top video chat providers in the world.
