Now You Can Add One More Number to the Same SIM Card

By Narayan Bhat, TMCnet Contributor

Mobile roaming solutions vendor Roamware Inc has just made available a solution that enables wireless carriers to offer a second, temporary phone number to their mobile phone customers, who can use it along side the SIM's primary number without any need for inserting one more SIM card into their handset.

The new temporary number would work in parallel with the SIM's primary number, allowing the subscriber to make and receive calls as well as send and receive text messages much the same way he does with the primary number.

It is no doubt an innovative service because it enables operators to offer an additional number to an existing subscriber for a limited period without having to issue an additional SIM card.

The service which allows subscribers to have two separate numbers without having to carry two separate devices or even switching SIMs is particularly useful to mobile users who need to share their number in the public domain for a short period of time.

"People are anxious about sharing their personal phone number with strangers but often find that they have to when they are, for instance, selling items on eBay (News - Alert) or advertising their business in local papers or on billboards. The Temporary Number Service will solve that problem," said Abraham Punnoose, vice president, marketing and business development at Roamware (News - Alert).

San Jose-based Roamware said customers can get the service activated on their mobile phone by placing a call to their operator’s customer care center, where they will be offered a list of temporary numbers to choose from.

Once the number is chosen, the service will be activated. The user will be able to store the temporary contacts separate from their normal contacts in their phone book so as to avoid making calls to them from their regular number.

Roamware’s clientele include 480 mobile operators across 154 countries around the globe.
