Enterasys Wireless Enhances its Portfolio

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Enterasys is the network infrastructure and security division of Siemens Enterprise Communications (News - Alert) GmbH & Co KG. The company recently announced new 802.11n access points and automation features that redefine low cost/high functionality, enterprise-class wireless devices. The new Enterasys (News - Alert) Wireless, also known as HiPath Wireless, access points provide cost-effective, energy efficient and easily deployed 802.11n upgrade solutions.

With the introduction of these new access points, Enterasys has enhanced its integrated wired/wireless solution, enabling two network infrastructures to be managed and secured as a single entity, further simplifying network management and providing additional operational cost savings.

Automated policy management provides the superior user experience whether the user attaches through a wired or wireless connection, which reduces network management complexities and improves network security.

By providing 802.11a/b/g/n capabilities for both distributed and standalone network deployments, the new intelligent access points enhance the WLAN component of the integrated wired/wireless network and align WLAN operations with enterprise needs.

Senior Analyst, Current Analysism Paula Musich, said that the integration of the Enterasys WLAN portfolio with its existing wired policy and infrastructure management is unique to the market. Paula added that by allowing users to move from one WLAN to another and have their role-based policies move with them, Enterasys helps to lower operational costs.

The company has lowered the cost of upgrading the WLAN to encompass all of the benefits of 802.11n while eliminating unnecessary switch and infrastructure replacement costs. Enterasys provides the easiest migration path for customers to move to 802.11n technology, streamlining the installation process with specialized mounting hardware that enables the new access points to affix quickly to existing mounting brackets from other wireless vendors.

The solution also reduces installation and start-up time by automatically discovering, configuring and optimizing the new access points without manual steps. Enterasys customers can save $140,000 in maintenance fees over the life of the equipment compared to a competing 200 access point deployment.

Vice President at Stephens Inc., Matthew McEwen, said that they selected an Enterasys 802.11n solution because it's affordable and easy to manage.

The Enterasys AP3605, AP3630 and AP3640, starting at a U.S. list price of $685, will be available in Q2 2010. The Enterasys Wireless portfolio will be on display at the Interop (News - Alert) 2010 show in Las Vegas from April 25-29.
