Ruckus Wireless, a pioneer in the development of smart WiFi (News - Alert) for enterprise and service provider markets, has announced that Chongqing Telecom will be launching a new innovative service, Tianyi Broadband, with the support of Ruckus’ smart WiFi. Chongqing Telecom, a division of China Telecom, aims at a large-scale, citywide deployment of WiFi hotspots with Tianyi Broadband.
Chongqing Telecom’s launch of Tianyi Broadband is supported by the need for faster Internet. Tianyi Broadband offers a user-centric solution that bundles wired broadband, WiFi and CDMA 3G in one single package, as well as enables users to China Telecom's (News - Alert) services through a single account. Its service offerings include e-mail, SMS, Tianyi-live, which is a chat service, love music providing streaming music and Tianyi video, which provides video streaming. For this purpose ,Chongqing Telecom deployed more than 4,000 Ruckus ZoneFlex indoor as well as outdoor Smart WiFi access points (APs) or nodes, along with ZoneDirector WLAN controllers across the city of Chongqing.
The Ruckus ZoneFlex is the latest in the smart WiFi wireless LAN suite of products and was designed and created to provide a wireless LAN environment that can be easily deployed with a minimal IT impact. ZoneFlex is the first WLAN system that combines state-of-the-art advances in smart antenna technology, automatic user security, quality-of-service and centralized management within a single, cost-effective system. The Ruckus Smart WiFi APs now cover hundreds of hot zones within five districts and has already been installed in a wide range of locations spanning from universities to restaurants, office buildings to shopping centers and public venues.
By offloading data traffic from the current CDMA 1X and EVDO to Wi-Fi, Chongqing is now able to deliver superior user experience without dramatically investing, while adding new capacity to the 3G infrastructure, operation and maintenance. Chongqing Telecom can provide easy and flexible high-speed Internet access nearly everywhere they roam and maintain good stable network coverage by linking with CHINANET, the backbone of Chinese public Internet operated and managed by China Telecom. Chongqing's new Smart Wi-Fi infrastructure includes thousands of ZoneFlex 2741 outdoor 802.11g and indoor ZoneFlex 2942 802.11g APs. Also, for the management of the network Ruckus’ new, high-capacity ZoneDirector controllers with WAPI and IPv6 support has been deployed.
