Trinity Convergence, a developer of embedded software solutions for the automotive, communications, consumer electronics, industrial controls and medical device markets, announced that its VeriCall family of IP communications and multimedia software is reportedly available for the i.MX51 family of applications processors from Freescale Semiconductor (News - Alert).
According to company officials, the VeriCall software solutions on the i.MX51 processor offer a compelling platform for portable consumer electronics. The collaboration provides solutions that simplify how OEMs integrate new features and services into their next generation devices, officials said.
VeriCall Edge 4.0 includes a Media Quality Module or “MQM” that provides video tuning mechanisms designed to deliver the highest quality IP video communications possible over a given network.
The software provides consumer electronics manufacturers with a comprehensive embedded software platform to enable high-definition voice and video calling (including wideband voice and up to 720p video) applications on i.MX51 processor in IP-connected devices such as multimedia tablets, video phones, digital photo frames, mobile Internet devices (MIDs) and netbooks / smartbooks, as well as a broad range of multimedia capture / playback / transmit functionality, the company said.
The ability of VeriCall Edge 4.0 to deliver media processing, networking technology and quality of service (QoS) components in a single software framework helps CE manufacturers minimize the challenges and risks inherent to embedded software design, the company said.
The collaboration also helps manufacturers shorten product development cycles and accelerate time-to-market.
“Advanced processors such as the i.MX51 device are enabling the delivery of real-time HD video communications and digital entertainment services to a wide range of connected devices,” said Jeff Schline, director, partner and marketing programs for Trinity Convergence (News - Alert), in a statement.
The company has already licensed VeriCall software for the i.MX51 to OEMs manufacturing multimedia phone, set-top box and smartbook devices, company officials said.
“Trinity's technology offers customers a proven platform for enabling high-definition communication services and multimedia applications in a variety of end-products,” said Sridharan Subramanian, senior manager of software and platforms for Freescale Semiconductor's Multimedia Applications Division, in a statement. “Trinity's support for the i.MX51 family of products underscores the depth and quality of Freescale's growing ecosystem for applications processors.”
The company has ported several embedded software solutions on Freescale processors and product families including StarCore, ColdFire and i.MX processors, according to company officials.
Trinity recently announced partnership with Skype (News - Alert) to add Skype video calling to high-definition TVs and other connected CE products, TMCnet reported. Trinity Convergence (News - Alert) has also secured commercial agreements with multiple TV manufacturers, the report said.
