VoIP Provider BroadSoft Acquires GENBAND's M6 Product Line

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

BroadSoft (News - Alert), a global provider of VoIP applications for the telecommunications industry, has announced the acquisition of GENBAND’s M6 Communication Applications Server product line and related customer base.

Formerly known as VocalData, GENBAND (News - Alert) is a global supplier of IP gateways for a diverse set of service provider networks throughout the world. The acquisition is expected to expand BroadSoft’s portfolio into new areas.

The acquisition is also expected to allow BroadSoft to extend its position in the VoIP applications market, enabling GENBAND to focus its efforts on advancing its gateway product innovation.

“Our mutual product strengths made BroadSoft’s acquisition of the M6 technology and customer base a logical business strategy for both organizations,” said Michael Tessler, president and chief executive officer of BroadSoft. “Our new customers will continue to receive the highest quality customer service as well as our dedicated focus to ensuring their satisfaction – consistent with the quality provided to all BroadSoft customers worldwide.”

BroadSoft recognized GENBAND’s divestiture of its M6 application product as a powerful opportunity to enhance its market position in the VoIP applications industry. As the demand for VoIP solutions grows, opportunities are immense. The expansion of BroadSoft’s offering will create a significant growth advantage.

With the acquisition, BroadSoft’s total customer base will grow to 435.

“In making this decision, it was important to GENBAND to find the right company who would ensure the continued success of our customers,” said Charles Vogt, president and chief executive officer of GENBAND. “We feel strongly that this partnership will ultimately strengthen the M6 product and as a result, its customers will benefit from the communication innovations BroadSoft brings to market.”

The acquisition is expected to continue to strengthen BroadSoft’s position in VoIP applications, driving demand for its solutions and building on its brand. In doing so, the company will be able to expand while protecting a core base.

This acquisition is considered the beginning of a long-term partnership for BroadSoft and GENBAND. The two companies have entered into an agreement to cooperate on Network Transformation projects, which will allow their customers to bundle core voice, data and web-based services across an IP network.
