Ascom Wireless Adds VoIP to Improve Hospital Staff Communications

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Ascom Wireless Solutions has reportedly added VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) to their widely deployed Ascom (News - Alert) teleCARE IP solution, which was launched last year. This new voice communication feature enables nurses to talk with their patients, identify the reason for the call and adjust their work according to the information.

Designed to make everyday life for hospital staff even more convenient, the new enhanced solution from Ascom Wireless Solutions allows conversation between people while on the move. Communication is established by means of Ascom DECT (News - Alert) or VoWiFi wireless handsets and is done over the LAN using VoIP and SIP clients. The multiple sites are connected to one large united site by using the LAN.

Jan Ringenier, product manager at Ascom noted that they are focused on creating a truly future proof environment with solid communication solutions for their customers. Because VoIP routes phone calls over existing data networks and avoids duplicate network systems, it reduces communication and infrastructure expenses, which greatly benefits the healthcare sector.

“The Ascom teleCARE IP system is highly secure in operation and makes it possible to reuse the existing infrastructure, which means less investment for the hospital,” said Ringenier.

Ascom was recently in news when it introduced a new generation of IP-DECT handsets designed for use in key business segments such as hospitals, industries, offices, retail and secure establishment.

Commenting on the launch Dennis Andersson, vice president of Marketing and Product
Management said that the new devices offer more licensed professional functionalities that can address mixed customer needs. He believes these handsets will strengthen their position in the market especially within the rapidly growing IP based DECT technology area.
