WildPackets Debuts New Functionalities in OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

WildPackets say they have upgraded their version of the OmniPeek Distributed Analysis with new functionalities in order to accommodate the growing demands of converged IP networks.

WildPackets (News - Alert) develops hardware and software solutions that drive network performance, enabling organizations of all sizes to analyze, troubleshoot, optimize, and secure their wired and wireless networks.

WildPackets states that the OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite gives network engineers real-time visibility into every part of the network—simultaneously from a single interface—including Gigabit, Ethernet, 802.11 wireless, VoIP, and WAN links to remote offices.

The new version 6.0 of this suite consists of OmniPeek network analyzer, OmniEngine software probes and Omnipliance Network Recorders, advanced analysis cards, and a host of extensions that add virtually unlimited functionality across all areas of wireless, Gigabit, 10 Gigabit, and wide area networks.

WildPackets’ officials add that it is necessary for a solution to be able to monitor and manage all types of traffic that are present in the network. Traffic management and monitoring means not just web data transfers but file transfers, routing protocol updates, IP voice traffic, video streaming, database queries and other transactions as well. They add that OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite analyzes a network without interfering with it and accelerate troubleshooting without degrading network performance.

Officials explain that the OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite distributes both network traffic capture and analysis. OmniEngine software probes perform full seven-layer packet analysis, including Expert Analysis, locally. The only traffic crossing the network is the specific analytical results (not a full network packet stream) requested by the OmniPeek console. The result is a feather-light load on the network and the fastest possible delivery of Expert Analysis data to the administrator.

“This latest version of the OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite represents the culmination of almost two years of development and beta testing from some of the largest companies on the planet, including RBS, SAP, Siemens, and Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert),” said Tony Barbagallo, vice president of Marketing for WildPackets. “We have achieved a major breakthrough in performance management of all the key protocols and topologies of today’s converged networks in a single unified product offering.”

Apart from having network and application performance dashboards, the suite also comes with a VoIP and Video Dashboards which enables network engineers to monitor and see the quality of voice/videos being streamed. Comprehensive reports can be generated giving key decision-makers and company executives an accurate accounting of Voice and Video traffic for compliance and capacity planning.
