Vyatta, a major player in open networking, reportedly has unveiled Vyatta (News - Alert) Community Edition 5, a routing and security software.

 

Company officials said that VC5 expands Vyatta’s security feature set, adding SSL-based OpenVPN, intrusion prevention system, and Web URL filtering among many other improvements.

 

“Vyatta simply delivers more features and performance for a lower cost than any other networking vendor,” said Kelly Herrell, chief executive officer of Vyatta.

 

Herrell said that with five major software releases in three years, the company has revolutionized the networking world while proprietary vendors have stood still.

 

Thousands of networks have implemented Vyatta’s proven routing and security solutions at affordable prices without sacrificing performance, reliability, or interoperability. Networks grow and expand, and budgets tighten daily.

 

“SCS (News - Alert) believes standardizing on Vyatta systems can deliver the performance, scalability and reliability that we demand for our IT enterprise at much more favorable pricing than proprietary products we might have chosen,” said Jerry Keene, a senior systems analyst at SCS Engineers.

 

Keene said that he believes that Vyatta products would give the company the very significant benefits of open source, open standards while at the same time giving advanced routing, firewalling, and VPN technologies fully comparable to and even surpassing in flexibility and compatibility proprietary solutions on the market.

 

“We particularly like Vyatta’s new SSL-based OpenVPN technology which we have implemented in one of our offices, and intend to leverage across our enterprise,” he said.

 

The company officials said that VC5 for the channel partners provides an increasingly popular, innovative routing and security technology that delivers clear financial and technical benefits to customers.
