Hosted PBX allows companies to outsource their IP PBX to a service provider. Many companies are led to believe that hosted PBX is the perfect answer for their economical communications solutions. But there are various drawbacks to hosted PBX services. These drawbacks are either not known to the service providers or they have no means to rectify these issues.
“Legacy PBX vendors sell on the fear of the unknown about hosted and SIP based VoIP services for large enterprise customers. Words like reliability and quality are often used as an example of what is not being delivered by hosted or SIP based VoIP services,” said William Bumbernick, CEO of Alteva (

Alteva’s hosted VoIP solution tries to simplify the process of using the hosted PBX service. For example, the service makes sure that the phones remain operational either over the PSTN, physically diverse data connection or re-routed locally. The partnership with EdgeMarc allows Alteva to offer WAN Link Redundancy (WLR) with a truly diverse network redundant path.
To ensure Quality of Service (QoS), survivability and WLR, the EdgeMarcs are being used at Alteva’s customer premises as the demarcation point. The EdgeView VoIP Support system is being used for configuration, troubleshooting and VoIP performance reporting. Alteva can now offer their hosted solution regardless of the customer size with EdgeMarc Network Services Gateway’s (

Alert) ability to scale to the large enterprise.
Recently, Alteva
participated in the
Universal Service Administrative Company’s
Schools and Libraries Program. Also known as E-Rate, the program helps schools and libraries in the United States get discounts for services such as telecommunications, Internet access and phone hardware. With the help of E-Rate, a school or library can deploy additional resources such as end user equipment (computers, telephones), software, professional development and other equipments.
