DCS Installs REDCOM HDX for Rural Illinois Service Provider

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

Digital Communications Services (DCS) reportedly has installed a REDCOM High Density Exchange (HDX) switch for Clarksville Mutual Telephone Company in Marshall, Illinois.

The HDX is a powerful, next-generation Class 4/5 softswitch. The switching system has been installed in rural Illinois service provider’s central office and is a scalable, stackable solution will allow them to offer Next Generation Network services to their subscribers in future.

Based on REDCOM’s (News - Alert) patented distributed architecture, HDX works as a cost-effective adjunct/overlay on an existing network. The switch can successfully minimize the risk of single point failures by distributing resources system-wide and network-wide, using multiple points of direct access.

DCS designs, develops, delivers and supports state-of-the-art switching products for the global telecommunication industry that adhere to industry standards, explained Ted Snedeker, president of DCS. The company finds REDCOM’s HDX switch to be perfectly right for Clarksville Mutual Telephone.

The HDX switching system will allow Clarksville Mutual Telephone to meet their needs economically and cost-effectively. The solution also allows them to easily migrate to Next Generation services when they are ready for the step.

Officials explain that REDCOM’s Maintenance Administration and User Interface (MAUI) provides Clarksville Mutual Telephone with an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI). This interface simplifies the configuration and maintenance of Clarksville’s new HDX switch.

Implementation of HDX has provided other benefits as well. The previous switch of Clarksville was not in compliance with the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA). But their new HDX switch has made Clarksville Mutual Telephone compliant with CALEA.

Under CALEA, the telecommunications service providers and equipment manufacturers are required to modify and design their equipment, facilities, and services to ensure they allow for the necessary surveillance.

REDCOM designs and manufactures reliable digital and IP-enabled telecommunications systems. The company was in news recently when it joined hands with LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) to create a solution that will deliver end-to-end secure communications on the move.
The alliance will support major U.S. Government initiatives for deployable, secure communications that leverage the capabilities and interoperability of commercial cellular and VoIP technologies.
