D-Link Selects DSP Group's DECT, VoIP Single-Chip Solution

D-Link Corporation, an end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and businesses, has selected DSP Group's (News - Alert) XvoiP Vega Firebird (PNX8181) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solution to drive its next-generation VoIP products.

DSP Group officials said that the VoIP solution will enable D-Link (News - Alert) to develop an array of feature-rich cordless-over-IP (CoIP) digital home telephony products for usage across the globe.

"The popularity of IP-centric devices in the home continues to grow through increased usage of IP phones, WLAN routers, surveillance cameras, tablets and IPTV (News - Alert)," said Kevin Chen, senior manager of D-Link.

Chen said that by deploying DSP Group's XvoiP Vega Firebird in the company’s dual-mode IP/DECT (News - Alert) phone solution -- which combines traditional telephony services and a PC-less IP phone with the VoIP capabilities – the company expect to take full advantage of this market trend.

"DSP Group is pleased that D-Link has chosen our exclusive cordless IP telephony offering," said Ofer Elyakim, senior vice president and East Asia president of DSP Group.

Elyakim said that the cooperation in the development of this project further strengthens the company’s successful partnership with D-Link.

In addition, he said that it underscores DSP Group's leadership position in DECT, which helped drive the development of the XvoiP Vega Firebird.

Combining wireless voice communications with IP connectivity and multimedia processing, this unique system-on-a-chip solution helps bring high-quality, affordable devices to the digital home, and will enable both companies to make a greater impact on the highly-evolving VoIP market, Elyakim said.

DSP Group provides a broad portfolio of chipsets integrating DECT, Wi-Fi, PSTN and VoIP/CoIP technologies with state-of-the-art application processors.

Back in January, the company announced the introduction of its CleaRange technology for extending the effective range of clear voice communications for CAT-iq DECT and U.S. DECT 6.0 cordless telephones.

CleaRange technology complements DSP Group’s state-of-the-art and ever-improving RF technology, which provides excellent receiver sensitivity for cordless telephony products.
