By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Western Australia-based Matrix Knowledge Management Pty Ltd, a provider of client/server software, announced that it will launching its new VoIP mobile software application, so called 'V Phone,' this week.

The latest offering from Matrix, V Phone 1.01 (Mobile), is a mobile SIP client software application that can be downloaded onto Smartphones. This mobile telephony option is not locked to a single VoIP provider, thereby enabling mobile phone users to choose between unlimited VoIP providers of their choice for voice calling.

Made available to Symbian (News - Alert)s60 3rd edition Operating System smartphones, the V Phone VoIP mobile application can initiate and establish voice calls as well as can send SMSs without using a SIM card, because the application makes voice calls and sends SMSs using the VOIP provider through WiFi (News - Alert)or 3G/GPRS. It makes use of codecs such as G729, G711, ALAW, and ULAW. It also accepts multiple inputs of VoIP providers for making VoIP calls.

Nowadays, the VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) technology is not only limited to desktops, but has also come to cell phones. This technology brings lot of savings compared to typical rates offered by major carriers around the world. So, VoIP technology helps in cutting down calling costs by leveraging the benefits of Internet on cell phone.

Reversing the single provider protocol, V Phone 1.01 allows users to choose the most cost-effective VoIP provider for each task by automatically connecting the phone to the Internet via the provider. This not only facilitates mobile users to save money but also provides few conveniences of desktop programs such as Skype (News - Alert).

Officials at Martix said that V Phone has the potential to be a forerunner in the mobile VoIP arena due to its unique approach to providers, thereby resulting in up to 90 percent of savings on phone bills. Additionally, it communicates with the chosen VoIP provider directly and does not go through any third party gateways.

V Phone offers two standard VoIP provider networks to send SMS messages. They are Pennytel and Clickatell (News - Alert)- http/https only.

In addition, the user has one more option as well for entering the user' own provider of choice. The user can select his/her own VoIP provider that is currently in use. However, the user will have to know the URL where to send the SMS as well as the parameter names of the user and password used by the provider beforehand.

Matrix said that the V Phone features an intuitive graphical user interface and has simple installation steps as well. It not only facilitates anyone to save money but also helps him/her to get more out of their mobile phones. Read more about it on http://www.tmcnet.com for best coverage.
