By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

LifeSize (News - Alert) Passport, a new HD video conferencing system, is intended to provide telepresence functionalities to users irrespective of their time and location.

The new solution, launched by LifeSize Communications, provides telepresence in a portable format  and at a very affordable price point.

According to company officials, it is also the first HD video communications system in the world to deliver Skype (News - Alert) audio calls to over 480 million registered Skype users.
Using the LifeSize interface, Passport subscribers can quickly connect to any global Skype user besides other LifeSize and standards-compliant enterprise video systems.

In addition to 720p 30 frames per second for HD video and audio streams,  the application also has a built-in ringer with a multipurpose display that lights up and informs users of an incoming call.

Another unique feature integrated in LifeSize Passport is Adaptive Motion Control or “AMC” which quickly adjusts to changes in a network environment to consistently ensure the best quality of visual motion control and clarity.

To make the offering extra-portable, it is also lightweight, weighing in just under a pound, compact and can be easily carried anywhere.

LifeSize Passport will be available in Q4 2009 in 2 models -  the LifeSize Passport with Focus priced at $2499 and the LifeSize Passport with PTZ Camera and mic pod, priced at $3499.
