Microsemi Corporation, a manufacturer of high performance analog/mixed signal integrated circuits and semiconductors, has reportedly signed an exclusive agreement with VoIP provider, Mitel Networks, for offering its PowerDsine Midspan products as power over Ethernet solutions to Mitel’s (News - Alert) division DataNet's comprehensive products.
"By forming this relationship with Microsemi (News - Alert), Mitel now has the option to power our IP Phones and partner WLAN access points and cameras with PowerDsine midspans, the most advanced and manageable power injectors in the market," said Ryan Donovan, national sales director at Mitel DataNet, in a statement. "PowerDsine PoE midspans from Microsemi are the optimal solution for customers seeking to deploy VoIP when they have sufficient switch hardware, but lack PoE capability. With PowerDsine midspans our overall system can have smart on-demand power availability, with secure manageability and IPv6 compatibility."
Mitel's DataNet is a division which has been focusing in the design, distribution, and support of integrated, comprehensive solution for their customers' complex data and telecommunications needs. The complete integration and validation of the LAN, WAN infrastructure, along with the implementation of security technologies, is said to allow Mitel to provide the right environment for successful VoIP implementations.
Under the deal all PowerDsine products - ranging from single-port to 48-port midspans - are offered through the Mitel DataNet division, including the new high power PD9000G family that supports IEEE802.3at devices and uniquely can provide mutual midspan backup.
"The new Mitel DataNet agreement leverages all the features available in the PowerDsine product line, allowing Mitel customers to migrate to VoIP while upgrading their underlying infrastructure to include power over Ethernet -- but without having to replace their existing Ethernet switches," said Sani Ronen, product marketing manager for PowerDsine products at Microsemi.
PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. The technology was pioneered by PowerDsine, a founding member of the IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3af Task Force. The company was acquired by Microsemi Corporation in January 2007 and is now part of Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group.
Microsemi’s PowerDsine PD-9000 power over Ethernet midspan was recently named a TMC Labs Innovation Award winner for 2009 by Technology Marketing Corporation's Internet Telephony (News - Alert) Magazine.
