AT&T Launches WiFi Service at Tulsa International Airport

AT&T, a major player in WiFi (News - Alert) with one of the nation’s largest WiFi networks, has launched WiFi service at Tulsa International Airport.

AT&T (News - Alert) officials said that the company’s WiFi service will be available at all gates, ticket counters and baggage-claim areas, allowing travelers to use their smartphones, laptop computers and other WiFi enabled devices to stay connected.

“By providing WiFi service to Tulsa International Airport visitors, we’re making travel easier than ever before, which is especially priceless for those who are always on the go,” said Alexis Higgins, director of marketing for Tulsa Airport Authority, in a statement.
“You’ll be able to surf the Web and e-mail while waiting to depart or as soon as you land.”

Cmpany officials said that the airport WiFi service is available to more than 27 million AT&T customers who have WiFi included in their AT&T broadband, smartphone and 3G LaptopConnect plans.

Other travelers can purchase access for $7.99 for a 24-hour session.

“Tulsa Airport is a great addition to our network of more than 20,000 WiFi hotspots nationwide,” said Steve Gray, vice president and general manager, Oklahoma and Arkansas, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets.

Gray said that reliable and convenient Internet access is a must-have for travelers, and AT&T WiFi makes it easy to find an online connection.

The consumer demand for WiFi is surging and it can be gauged from the fact that AT&T has reported a record year for WiFi connections on its network -- more than 51 million WiFi connections in 2009, as of the third quarter.

TMCnet in December reported that AT&T has announced the availability of its 3G mobile broadband network at 28 cell sites in the Shenandoah Valley.

According to company officials, customers will now be able to experience improved voice and data quality along Route 66 from Marshall to Front Royal and from there traveling either northward on I-81 to Winchester, or southward to New Market.
