From the bustling country of Luxembourg comes news that Adrian Dillon was named the new Skype CFO, replacing Laura Shesgreen.
Industry observer Andrew Berg reports that Shesgreen will remain at Skype as vice president of finance. Dillon will be based at Skype's headquarters in Luxembourg.
Dillon was working for measurement company Agilent (News - Alert) as executive vice president, Finance and Administration, and CFO. Berg reports that he'll join Skype in early April and report to Josh Silverman, Skype's CEO.
'As Skype moves deeper into mobile and enterprise environments and its consumer base grows steadily by the day, managing the pace of change in this dynamic industry and overseeing Skype's robust growth across geographies is a challenge that I truly relish,' Dillon said in a statement.
As Berg says, last month 'Skype released a 3G version of its VoIP client, which the company developed with and for Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless.' Skype has also recently announced a 3G version of its client compatible with all Symbian devices.
Prior to Agilent, Adrian had a 22 year career at Eaton Corporation (News - Alert), an Ohio-based diversified industrial manufacturer. Adrian held a variety positions at Eaton, joining as senior economist, moving to CFO and EVP during his tenure. Dillon is a summa cum laude graduate of Amherst College with a B.A. in economics. He is on the Board of Williams-Sonoma, where he chairs the Audit & Finance committee.
Last March TMC's (News - Alert) tech blogger Tom Keating wrote that the Skype for iPhone app 'is unavailable to our Canadian friends across the border in the Apple (News - Alert) iTunes App Store. I contacted Skype for comment and their representative told me, 'There are some patent-licensing issues which prevent us from offering it there.’'
Keating asked if other countries were affected or if it was just Canada and 'was informed it was just Canada. When asked whose patent it was or what category it involved (i.e. mobile VoIP), the representative told me, 'I can't go into many more details other than it is codec related.’'
