VoIP Innovations (News - Alert), a wholesale carrier of VoIP origination and termination services, is now an 800 Service Management System (SMS/800) RespOrg, or Responsible Organization.
Recently certified as a RespOrg, VoIP Innovations now has direct access to the Service Management System (SMS800) database that controls the nations call routing on all toll-free calls.
For those unaware, the SMS/800 is an operations support system (OSS) used for the creation and maintenance of North American toll-free call-processing records. All service providers that assign toll-free numbers for use within the US and Canada use it to verify the availability of specific numbers, reserve them, create customer records, and download records to local exchange carrier Service Control Points (SCPs) to facilitate call processing.
A Resp Org manages and administers a customer’s SMS/800 records. In other words, SMS/800 allows Resp Orgs to reserve Toll Free numbers for their customers and to set up call routing for them. According to a source, the RespOrg was launched in 1993 as part of the FCC (News - Alert) order to institute toll-free number portability.
Some of the additional toll-free area codes that now include are 800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, 833, and 822.
To become a Resp Org, an organization is required to successfully complete a certification process to gain access to the national database. After the approval of the certification, the organization is required to undergo an internal training that must be completed as well as BackOffice integration.
As one of the largest DID and termination VoIP footprints in North America and as RespOrg, VoIP Innovations has integrated fail-over protection for their toll-free DIDs and service.
In addition, the RespOrg designation now allows VoIP Innovations to LCR (least cost route) their toll-free origination that facilitates to provide the lowest possible rates while offering reliable up-time.
Direct access to SMS800 now facilitates customers of VoIP Innovations to quickly provision and re-route Toll-Free DIDs through VoIP Innovations Titanium III platform.
Some of the customers of VoIP Innovations include ITSP's, Hosted PBX (News - Alert) providers, call centers, calling card providers and other carriers.
“As one of the nation’s largest VoIP providers, becoming certified as a RespOrg was the next logical step for us,” said Jason Tapolci, president of VoIP Innovations, in a statement. “Giving our wholesale VoIP customers the peace-of-mind of knowing all their service wasn’t tied to one carrier, was very important to us. We can now offer redundancy on our Toll-Free DIDs.”
Barry Yancosek, senior operations manager at VoIP Innovations, said in a statement, “In general toll-free origination support is much quicker, better, and faster when a VoIP wholesale service provider controls the toll-free numbers.”
In recent news, the company has integrated its Direct Inward Dialing technology (DID) with IPsmarx multi-tenant IP-PBX and calling card platform.
