Patton's New BODi-rS Router Offers Absolute Uptime

By Steve Anderson, Contributing TMCnet Writer

Without routers, Internet connectivity would be a lot more difficult to deal with. Many routers promise excellent uptime, but usually there's some kind of caveat involved. Patton's (News - Alert) new BODi-rS line of routers, meanwhile, makes one very impressive claim alongside an already good quality lineup of features: 100 percent uptime.

How can a router possibly promise 100 percent uptime, with absolutely no downtime? With the Patton BODi-rS line, it's actually much simpler than might be expected. While normal routers depend on maybe just the Ethernet connection to provide their access, Patton's BODi-rS line uses Ethernet, wireless-mesh, 3G, 4G and LTE (News - Alert)--depending on what's available in the area--in concert with redundant WAN links and automatic failover to produce a multi-solution router with absolutely no downtime.

Better still, if a location subscribes to a 3G, 4G or LTE service, they can effectively add bandwidth to their connection by essentially creating what's called a "virtual leased line," which allows for that extra bit of connectivity without having to replace the current connection that's already in place.

Such a product has a wide array of uses for a variety of industries; most any business with satellite locations, like banks or brokerage firms, sales offices or even government offices can take advantage of something like this to provide a LAN complete with firewall and encryption, while at the same time taking advantage of the complete lack of downtime offered by the multi-solution setup. It can accommodate up to seven fixed or mobile WAN-line connections, making it ideal for smaller offices.

Those interested will have their choice of models to work with, including the BD004 mobile/portable network-survivability router, the BD007 enterprise WAN failover router and the BD1000 multi-channel fallback-network VPN router. The BD004 and the BD007 are currently available to order, but the BD1000 will be along in the near future. Meanwhile, Patton plans a BODi-launch webinar for their channel partners, which will be taking place on Wednesday, August 15.

A router with no downtime is a very noteworthy offer, and no doubt there will be plenty of small offices who'd like to get their hands on that capability. Having a variety of routers to choose from in the line also has the advantage of giving enterprise users a bit of control over just which solution they bring in, the solution that most closely approximates the individual needs of that enterprise. Customization capability usually goes a long way toward adding value, and this doesn't look to be any different. The Bodi-rS line should prove to be welcome in more than a few businesses out there.
