Service Provider Router Market Falls Sharply in 2Q 2012

Telecom and networking market watcher, Dell' (News - Alert)Oro Group, has published a new report on the service provider router market. According to this new report, the market continues to see the downward trend that began in the middle of 2011. In fact, as compared to the previous year, it has declined sharply in the second quarter (2Q) of 2012.

As per the Dell'Oro study, the service provider routers used to manage Internet traffic experienced a year-on-year sales declines in most regions of the world.

The report identifies the top four vendors of the Service Provider Router market; in ranked order – Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks, Alcatel-Lucent, and Huawei (News - Alert) Technologies. The study shows that the rankings have remained stable for a number of years, and these four vendors accounted for more than 90 percent combined market share in the second quarter of 2012.

In a statement, said Shin Umeda, vice president at Dell'Oro Group, "Over the past year, there has been a confluence of factors that are contributing to the weaker sales of Service Provider Routers.  Weak macroeconomic conditions have ravaged the European market, technology investment cycles are slowing in the United States and China, and lower prices are offsetting unit volume growth."

"We expect most of these conditions to continue into the second half of this year and are forecasting a flat year for the market,” he further added.

According to the Dell'Oro Group, the Routers Quarterly report offers complete, in-depth coverage of the service provider core and edge and enterprise router markets for current and historical time periods. The report includes qualitative analysis and detailed statistics for vendor market shares, revenue, average selling prices and unit and port shipments.

Despite this, one esteemed VoIP router provider, Patton (News - Alert), has continued its successful stride, having recently released its innovative new BODi rS transportable wireless-WAN Internet router. Aimed to accommodate business networking on-the-go, the all-new BODi rS Internet router supports mobile or vehicle-based enterprises.
